The PREP program at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology is a one-year, full-time, immersive postbac research experience at the interface of chemistry and biology. The program is intended for bachelor’s degree recipients who graduated within the last two years and are interested in increasing their laboratory skills and scientific knowledge, in preparation for application to high-caliber, research-oriented Ph.D. programs. 14 February 2024The Stavropoulos laboratory at the Waksman Institute and Rutgers University is seeking a full-time research technician to perform research on the mechanisms that regulate sleep. Our studies use the fruit fly Drosophila to characterize genes and brain circuits underlying sleep-wake cycles.
Bachelor’s degree in science and prior laboratory experience are required. Emphasis in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or neuroscience is helpful. Candidates should be highly motivated, enthusiastic about research, and able to work both collaboratively and independently. This opportunity provides an ideal training environment for those pursuing careers in scientific research and medicine. A two-year commitment is required. Summer Arb Crew: There are five student positions available on the Summer Arb Crew. Work includes eradication of invasive species, trail maintenance, ecological restoration, and seed collecting. Applicants must be willing to do physical work outdoors for extended periods, use power equipment (e.g. chainsaws), and apply herbicide. Students with experience in plant and/or animal identification may have a portion of their time dedicated to special inventory projects.
Summer Arb Research Assistant: This position provides support with plant and animal related research, inventory and monitoring projects. This includes assisting with preparing materials for fieldwork, data collection, data entry and analysis, and report writing. You will learn to identify a diverse group of plants to assist with inventory and will serve as a member of the Arboretum land management crew as needed (Approximately 20% of time).
