Fritch Endowed and James Woodward Strong Scholarships

The Fritch Endowed and James Woodward Strong Scholarships encourage and support middle-income students through all four years at Carleton. These scholarships are given to students in each incoming class. Recipients will receive the scholarship each year while attending Carleton as long as they are making satisfactory academic progress.

Fritch Endowed Scholarship

• Designated for middle-income students from a U.S. city of fewer than 200,000 people
• $10,000 a year for four years for a total award of $40,000

James Woodward Strong Scholarships

• Designated for middle-income families from U.S. metro areas
• $10,000 a year for four years for a total award of $40,000

Allocation for each of these scholarships

• $4,500 used to meet a student’s need
• $4,500 used to replace any loan offered or used toward the family contribution and pay any balance owed
• $1,000 used to buy books and supplies and other miscellaneous charges

To be considered for either scholarship:

1. Apply for admission
2. Apply for financial aid
3. Submission of the admission application and financial aid applications will automatically consider you for these scholarships. No additional requirements are needed.

The Admissions Committee will review applications in late March and will announce the finalists and alternates before April 15. If appropriate, alternates will be named as finalists by May 1.
