Dear Carleton Neuroscience Community,
Neuroscience faculty and staff stand in solidarity with our black and brown colleagues, students and fellow citizens. Staying silent is not an option. We are distraught at the never ending barrage of hostility, brutality and inequality that disproportionately affects minority, low-income, and marginalized people across the country. The recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Tayor, and Ahmaud Arbery add to the enormous list of lives violently taken by hatred or the callous disregard for human life.
The ongoing systemic racism that has plagued our country for its entire history has finally caught the attention of the nation and now is the time to do the work to combat racism. We commit to educating ourselves about our role in the system that perpetuates racism. We will identify and take actions to embrace and incorporate diversity into our curriculum. We welcome input from students on what would be most beneficial to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion at Carleton.
